The nurse lobby is pushing legislation in the Missouri Capitol to essentially grant Advanced Practice Registered Nurses the authority to practice independently. House Bill 1481 and Senate Bill 700 would eliminate the current 50-mile proximity requirement (the maximum distance allowed between the APRN and the supervising physician), and declare all of the existing collaborative practice rules null and void.
A second package the nurses are pushing, HB 1491 and SB 659, would greatly expand the APRN’s scope of practice to include advanced diagnosis, ordering tests, delegating medical acts to other health care providers, and initiating medication therapies.
