The Missouri Physicians Health Program (MPHP), sponsored by the Missouri State Medical Association, is available to help physicians who have life problems, including substance abuse, mental health stress, and other issues which prevent them from functioning at their best.
The aim of MPHP is to facilitate the physician’s return to healthy personal and professional functioning through early identification, intervention, and treatment.
Studies suggest that each year one percent of the physician population will become sufficiently impaired to require treatment. The cumulative lifetime risk is estimated to be ten to twenty percent.
If you suspect that you, a colleague, a friend or relative is impaired, call our confidential assistance hotline at 800-274-0933. All communications are kept strictly confidential.
The Missouri Physicians Health Program addresses a range of concerns, including:
Substance Abuse Disorders

The MPHP complies with the Federal confidentiality Regulations 42 C.F.R. Part 2. Communication with the MPHP is strictly confidential. Disclosure by the MPHP requires the professional’s written permission. The MPHP has no disciplinary authority. The MPHP’s activities are strictly limited to providing assistance and advocacy.
