Legislative & Membership Achievements
Tort Reform – Among the best tort reform packages in the nation, MSMA’s 2005 effort has resulted in incalculable savings for Missouri physicians, worth far more than MSMA’s dues.
Medical Malpractice Insurance Reform – On the heels of tort reform, MSMA spearheaded the effort to reform the malpractice insurance market in Missouri. Those changes created a more transparent and competitive insurance market, resulting in lower premiums for physicians and other health care providers.
Medicaid Physician Fees – MSMA worked to secure more than $105 million in new appropriations for Medicaid physician fees in the last three years. Within another two to three years, we plan to get enough funding to make Medicaid fees commensurate with Medicare fees.
Prompt Pay – MSMA’s prompt pay legislation from several years ago was considered one of the toughest in the nation. Now that the insurance industry has carved out a couple of loopholes to exploit, MSMA is leading the charge for a new, more stringent prompt pay law in Missouri.
