I strongly oppose this resolution. While I support the concept of “no residency, no independent license to practice medicine without collaboration with a licensed physician », however, limiting the Assistant Physicians to any number of years is wrong. We need to provide a way to these physicians to serve under supervision as they are way more qualified than a PA or NPA. After years of studying and huge cost and in view of limited residency slots ( eight per cent of US medical graduates did not match in March 2021) we should and need to give all of them an unlimited alternative without the possibility of converting into full independent practice.

SUPPORT. It is important for patient/public safety that standards requiring formal post-graduate training in order to get an unrestricted physician license not be relaxed. Apprenticeship-type "training" in medicine has been replaced by formal internships, residencies, and fellowships many decades ago with great benefit to patient safety and quality of medical care delivery. We should not be going back to the are before the Flexner report.
