How was the age of 68 decided upon? There are multiple reasons why a physician might retire practice before age 68. For example a second non-medical career, health, burnout, etc. and still have an interest in and desire to contribute to medical interests and may have experience and yes, even the time to contribute beyond those who are still engaged in patient contact and continuing education 50-60 hours a week. I would suggest age 60 if you need a number, as long as the physician is not in a career or position that would be contrary to the values of the medical society.
