I write in opposition to Resolution #7. Missouri is much closer to the eastern side of the time zone than the western side. Also, DST allows for a "later" sunset for most of the yr & permits longer daylight period after the end of a "typical" workday, in a nation burdened by obesity & in which more folks need to get out and exercise more. Longer daylight periods after work serve to potentiate longer opportunities for getting outdoors to golf, to walk, to run, etc. after a work day. Thus, if MO were to eliminate moving clocks, we should go to PERMANENT Daylight Saving Time. Those who would oppose Daylight Saving Time cite real "costs" for a few days of the year but overlook the net benefit, and are "missing the forest for the trees".

I like the idea, but I am concerned about changing Missouri to standard time unless bordering States do likewise. Otherwise many citizens of the bordertowns on State lines of Missouri will have adverse effects on their sleep for not just a few days/weeks, but rather 6 months out of the year. More than 50% of our physicians in our group live in Kansas but practice in Missouri. Perhaps making the recommendation contingent on all bordering States adopting the same Standard Time resolution would address my concerns.

Agree that MSMA should work with MO Gen Assembly and AMA to recommend elimination of DST. It's about time!
